The short and strong 2.5 mm thick blade is resistant to twisting and the handle gard protects the hand from the cutting edge of the blade.

Blade hardness 56-57 HRC

Beech is the most common wood used in Opinel handles. PEFC-certified, it comes from eco-managed farms in the Jura and Vercors regions. It is hard, resistant and easy to work. It is homogeneous in appearance, with a light color ranging from yellow to pink. It can be recognized by the presence of numerous small dark lines. The handle is varnished to protect it from moisture and dirt.
